It’s fair to say that the last few years has been really tough on job seekers. The pandemic just made things even harder for those seeking work. Many businesses closed on a temporary basis and some were unable to open again after the lockdown. This meant that there were even fewer jobs going round.
However, there is light at the end of the tunnel and that light is here now. Businesses are coming out of the other end. The successful businesses have been spending the lockdown plotting and planning to get bigger and better as the world returns to normal. The great news is that they’re ready to do that now, and they need your help.
We just need to make sure that they know it’s you that they want to help them in their business growth plans. So, we have put together a guide on how to become more employable, so you are the candidate our client chooses when we put you forward for their vacancy.
When was the last time you really updated your CV. Not just added the last job on, but really reviewed in. Take a look at your CV and make sure it really shows who you are now, not who you were 7 years ago when you first put your CV together. Take out any information that’s outdated or no longer relevant and make sure your CV portrays the best possible version of you.
Think about the job roles you want and the skills or experiences that might help that industry or the hiring company. Then, get learning. There are loads of online learning courses, workshops and opportunities out there. Even if it’s only a short course or a free course, it still shows that you are willing and proactive about working in that industry, company or job role.
Check who you put down as your references and check in with them. It’s a chance to remind your old employers how lovely you were. You can also check that the details you have are still the best contact details to pass on. It also means that your old employer knows you are looking for work again and they may have something suitable or know of a business that has a suitable role for you.
