Reports from CV Library show that two thirds of us will either be seeking a job or a better job in the New Year. It’s the top New Year’s Resolution expected for 2021, along with managing money better and losing weight.
So, with so many other people planning to be out with the old job and in with the new job, how can you get ahead of the game.
Here are our top tips to help you in your quest of throwing the old job out and coming in with the new job.
Update Your CV
Use your Christmas holiday time off to bring your CV up to date. The CV is one of the first things your potential employer will see. Make sure it is tailored to suit their needs and show off all your great talents, skills and experiences. You need to ensure that your CV does you justice.
Log The Good Stuff
We all have skills that employers are looking for. However, they might not be from recent job roles. If you have a hobby that has given you strong transferable skills that the employer will love, make sure it’s in your CV. Talk about voluntary and work experience roles too. Explain the skills you learnt and how you can use these in your next job.
Things don’t always go to plan and that’s okay. The truth of a person is how they deal with a problem. Don’t dwell on the negatives. Instead turn these negatives into positives. If you were made redundant, explain that. Then move on to explain how you spent this unexpected free time by learning new skills or working on personal development.
If there is a company you are desperate to work for, do your research. If you can include in your CV or cover letter why you think you are right for their company this will really sell you. Look at the awards they have won or their company values. Use their language and values to say explain who you’re their perfect match.
