The job market is really competitive at the moment and businesses have seen a huge rise in job applications. This means that it is more important than ever before to really stand out in your interview. The competition is fiercer than ever, so you need to make sure you are prepared.
Here at Point Recruitment we want to help you land that dream job. In this blog post we have put together some things that you should research before your interview. This will not only help you feel more confident in your interview, it will help you stand out from the crowd as a prepared, professional and efficient candidate too. By following these tips, you could make a huge difference to how your interviews see you.
Check The Website
This is probably the most obvious, but it had to be included. Take the time to look at their ‘About Us’ page. This will tell you a little bit about the business and maybe their plans for the future. There may be photos of the team too which will help you recognise who is interviewing you, etc. Check out their latest blogs too as this can give you a conversation point about the latest news in their business. Look through their testimonials, perhaps you have worked with businesses they work with too. It’s a great idea to look at their tone and voice too so you get an idea of the business.
The Job Advert, Description and Specification
You will have looked at the job advert when you applied for the job. Perhaps you skimmed the job description and quickly looked through the personal specification. Now is the time to go back through these and really understand what they are asking for. What they have written isn’t just what the job involves, but also what type of person they are looking for. Just like the voice and tone on the website, check the language in the job description too. By using their language and emphasising how much you meet their needs and requirements you’ll be showing the interviewer that you are the perfect candidate for their role.
Just like you will check out their latest news in the blogs posts on their website, check out the latest industry news too. The latest news on the blogs will show any recent campaigns they have run, awards they have won or new employees they have take on. Meanwhile, looking at news in the industry and checking out the competition and their news is a great idea too. By sharing snippets of what you have seen online in the industry and among their competitors will show you are a ‘bigger picture thinker’ and looking at the business and how you can help grow with it.
